On June 13, 2000, EPAs Office of Air and Radiation hosted a one-day public meeting to take comments on whether the Agency should decide to regulate mercury emissions from coal-fired utility plants. Ralph Roberson, of RMB, attended the meeting and presented testimony on behalf of the Utility Air Regulatory Group (UARG). The bottom line of the utility industrys argument is that EPA should not be forced into making a regulatory decision by some arbitrary deadline. Rather, EPA should wait for the completion of ongoing mercury research projects so that the Agency will be in position to make a scientifically informed regulatory determination.
